In
painting I react to a given space, how I exist, and interact within it.
I am
investigating communication, interaction and traveling within a created
space.
I am trying to figure out a particular place and time, and how it
functions
The way we interact with our surroundings, what we choose to walk
around,
move
out of our way, and navigate through, is at the heart of my work. I
find it
curious that we are creatures of habit and need the familiar to get
comfort out
of
our day. I am curious not only about the patterns that are created from
familiar
habits and routines but, more recently, the patterns that surround
one. These
forms in my paintings begin to be a reference to a particular place
and time, now
operate somewhere in between the particular, physical pattern we
can touch, like
a dish cloth to a less recognizable pattern such as musical
notes, or walking. I take
in consideration the noises around us, patterns and
objects within a particular place,
and how they have a place in this world at
this time. A recent discovery through
painting is the way we live through the
world, and how we make sense of it,
communicate to it, with one another through
visual forms, signs, language and symbols.
I
believe
in making images and objects that raise questions about the world we
live in
today, where it’s going and where we’ve been. I
believe that paintings should
be able
to provide a space where the imagined can exist. The process of
painting, the dialogue,
and concerns, are always in motion.
